Summary:People perform all sorts of rituals in the hope of gaining huge favors from Gods. However, sometimes, these rituals verge on the dangerous. For example, in Bhidavad village men lay prostrate on the ground as a herd of cows passes over them. They believe that by doing this bizarre ritual the gods will be pleased who will in turn fulfill all their wishes. The ritual takes place on the day after Diwali in Bhidavad village of Ujjain town in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. As per sources, the ritual is being performed in these parts for the past two centuries. The rituals are organised by the villager and no authority figure is present to oversee the proceedings. Also, no modern medical facilities or ambulances are readily available if a participant gets hurt while performing the ritual. Villagers apply cow dung on the wounds of the injured men as they believe it leads to speedy recovery. The participants fast for five day and then on the day after Diwali they showcase their braver and devotion by laying on the ground face-down while a herd of cows passes over them. Notably, the passage is very narrow which leads to cows falling on these men. But the men take it as a test of their bravery and dedication to the goal of pleasing gods
